I am looking at investing in a temperature controller and leaning toward the DigiQ. Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of the DigiQ compared to the Auberins model, or any other controller? I have an Old Country Pecos side firebox smoker and want to make it easier for me to control the pit temperature

I can't comment on the Auberins model, as I've never used one. I have had a DigiQ DX2 for two years and it has been rock solid. I have not had one bit of trouble with the unit. It will keep pit temps within +- 3# if I do my part, which is mostly keep fuel in the FB. As long as there is fuel you can count on it to hold the set temp. PERIOD. I know there are others that use the DX2 on the board and I'm sure they will chime in on their experiences shortly.

As a side note, I see a whole lot of DX2's at BBQ comps. More than any other controller. That's one of the reasons I choose it over the other brands. I also know several caterers that use the DX2 exclusively.

BBQWillie,

Thank you for the reply. The more research I do on the BBQ Guru, the more I am turned away, due to poor customer service. I am trying to convince myself to pull the trigger and get the DigiQ, however that something is pulling me away

I've had a DigiQ DX2, for about 6 years. It has worked perfectly every time I have used it. I haven't even had to replace a probe wire. Don't know about their customer service, never had to use it.

I can't talk to their customer service either. like SmokinAl, I've never had to use it. I have heard of other folks complaining about it though.

I've used an Auberins unit for the past few years on my fridge conversion. It blew a fuse or something during my first cook, but customer service replaced the unit, no problem. They even made me a custom length probe when the supplied one was too short. I've had no problems since.

I'm using an Auberins dual probe unit on a homemade electric, been using it for about eighteen months.

It is very solid unit once it reaches temp it holds it normally within one degree.

Have not had one second of problems with it.

Keep on smokin'                  Ed
