Good morning everyone, I am going to be buying a Weber 22.5 smoker and was wondering if I needed to purchase the DigiQ fan and probes? I have two pellet smokers and use two Mavericks on them. Was going to use the one Maverick on the Weber. Just didn't want to spend another $275 at this time if I didn't have too. Thank you for all input. Dan

You definitely don't NEED a temp controller for a wsm. They're pretty well known for holding rock solid temps on their own. The first few cooks will be a little hard to keep the temps in check, but once you get a layer of seasoning built up on the inside it'll settle down and be very easy to control.

I think a lot of the comp guys use a guru or some other temp controller because they want absolute rock solid control. It's not necessary in the back yard. That being said, I've considered getting one of the PartyQ controllers for my mini wsm just because I love gadgets and I think it would be fun to just dial in a temperature and walk away.
