Hi All,

Im new to these forums - so I wanted to drop in and say hello. I found this site by searching the net for help with my smoker! Great site!

Anyhow - I live in the Suburbs near Detroit and I recently was given a smoker (brand new in the box) by my father in-law. He re-gifted it to me seeing as it was just sitting in his garage.

Im using the Brinkman Charcoal Smoker - the rectangular shaped one with the big front door - two rack shelves and then the water pan - then the coal pan. It has the thermometer in the door - but I read somewhere that I should get another one for the inside - so I put an oven thermo in there.

Basically, I love to be outside during the winter months (I know that sounds crazy to some of you southern snow birds - but I love the winter) and I figure since use my BBQ grill all winter - I might as well get into smoke'n too?

And for personal info about myself... that I like to share on the WWW for everyone to read... cause I got no shame... Here it is...

* Im happily married (most days - lol)

* I have a two 1/2 year old son (makes me laugh every day)

* Im an avid ATV'er, (Arctic Cat 700 TRV Cruiser)

* I work in healthcare (I take care of people, thats what we do)

* My favorite cocktail is Jim Beam (In a rocks glass with a splash of diet coke - ya know - for the color.)

* I have a great sense of humor (mean people suck)

* Genuinely, I love people, good people. (without regard to their socioeconomic status)

* I still believe there are honest people in the world (I've met a couple)

* This summer I want to buy a 30 foot cabin cruiser (but between you and me... I can't afford it)

* I love photography - its my true passion (but not what pays my bills)

* I believe in God and have seen his miricales (but I dont go to church)

* I voted (but my candidate didn't win)

* Im a germ-a-phobe (ever since I took that microbiology class 15 yrs ago)

* I don't own and Ipod or MP3 player (humm?)

* Im on Facebook and myspace (but I don't twitter - tweet tweet)

* Lets Go! Red Wings! Lets Go! Red Wings! ... and the chant continues.

* Its time to check the smoker - (thanks for reading this far)

Im looking forward to hanging around on the site! Today I tackle Jerky, next weekend Im going for the Salmon.

Happy Holidays (if we dont chat beforehand)

Cheers!

Mr. Detroiter!

Thanks everyone! I've been a smoking fool for the past few weekends. I picked up some salmon from People's Fish Market up in Pontiac, MI. Im going to give it try in the smoker either tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks again for the warm welcome!

PS - Hello Waterford!

Welcome aboard. My parents live in Trenton and I live in Fenton.. Glad to see you are going to have some fun this winter. I also love to be outside, in fact for the last week I have cracked the walkout door in our bedroom and put a fan against is blowing in from outside. Temps last night down to 17 degrees. Four blankets and never woke up until 7:00 am this morning. My wife thinks I have brain damage, probably won't get to do that too many more times, she gets cranky!!!
