Ok, so I have decided to start getting stuff togeather for my build now that I have my new welder. I have a few questions though.

I need to be bigger than my ECB but I don't want to be so big I am going to have problems so I was thinking a cylinder about 5' long but for the diamiter of the pipe what would be a good size 24" or 30"?
basicly I want to be able to throw 7 or 8 slabs of ribs on for one smoke.
is there any problems acociated with going wider? and is there a down side for having thicker pipe? I have found pipe ranging from 1/8" to 1/2" wall thickness.

well thats it for now, I will most likely have more questions but untill I get the main body thoes are a ways off.

thanks
Steve

I personally think the bigger diameter tanks are great that much more rack space. As far as thickness of the steel the thicker the better it should hold the heat of course at some point you have to think about weight and expense. If I ever get everything I need to build mine it'll be 1/4" tank and more than likely 1/4" firebox and plate. I would consider a heavier firebox but honestly don't know if it would be worth the added expense. Those are my thoughts and I'm sure others have other opinions

Build yourself a Lang-a-like (reverse flow clone) with 1/4 in. steel and you'll be good. Plenty of reverse flow builds on the site that will give you lots of ideas.

hey dutch,
Im going to be starting my lang alike this weekend but i had a question about the warming box on it. I wasnt sure where the inlet and outlets are on it. any help on this wood be greatly appreciated. and any pictures would be amazing. I've had pit envy from everyones langs on here

what is the dia of the lang main cooking chamber? I am looking at the lang clone but instead of a warming chamber it is going to be a verticle smoker for sausage and such with the capability of doing cold smoke also.

One thing I am wondering about also is how much heat is radiated off the top of the fire box? I guess I will have to insulate the bottom of the verticle section and have a deicent air space between that and the fire box also.
