Going to try csr's and cherry coke. I know to soak them in the cherry coke for several hours but should I add any other spices in with the coke and if so I need some ideas?

Thanks

You could add spices to the brine but I think you would have better results if you pulled the CSR's out of the cherry coke when you feel they have had enough and add your favorite rub. This would give you some bark and flavor on the outside to mix with the coke flavor on the inside. Bark = excellence IMHO.

Sounds good. I've always had trouble being able to create a good crust or bark on my Q. This is what I will be doing different this time. No water pan, going with 2 regular bricks wrapped in foil and I will be spritzing the meat every hour with apple juice. Does that sound like I would be able to get a crust?

Below is Bilbo's rub recipe. The sugar in the rub caramelizes and starts bark formation. There are methods for using the water pan but for CSRs I would go with the bricks.

Bilbo’s Rub

1/2 cup paprika
1/2 cup kosher salt
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated garlic
6 tablespoons granulated onion
1/4 cup chili powder
1 tablespoon fresh ground black pepper
1 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Pat dry your CSRs and put as much rub on as will stick. By the way the 1/2 cayenne is a lot. I don't put much in. Smoke at 225 until the internal temp is around 180 or 200 for falling apart CSRs. Hopefully this helps!

Thanks I believe I have all that in my pantry already. Can't wait to try it out.
