after using my rig for over a year now, and actually using it alot ... doing cold smokes, sausage, cheese, ribs , butts ... you name it... i started to notice some creosote dripping down the vent onto my diffusion pan. from there the odd bit was running down onto whatever i was smoking. happened twice so i went into panic mode!!!!!
figured if i heated it up good and hot i could clean what looked like "gunk" outta the stack. turned it up to 300 and went to the gym. 3 hrs later i took the stack off and was gonna try and clean everything up... LOW AND BEHOLD it all went hard and crystal and just scraped away like a breeze !!!!
so the moral of the story is turn that baby up on high every now and then and get rid of the GOO ....
the main reason this is forming is i have about a 90 degree bend and a piece of 3" heating duct that goes out of my shop. can be cool and humid and down right cold and nasty sometimes so i guess the smoke condensates and collects creosote. nothing i can do about it. i am using any of the varieties of AMNPS and AMNPT for my smoke gens. just thought i would pass this info an in case others come across the problem.

you can see my diffuser, my pipe out the shop door and the smoker smokin... the smoke source has been changed since these picsn and of course its not lily white inside any more ...   ha ha ha

Goliath, nice setup you have there.  Sounds like everything is working as it should by producing a much cleaner smoke over placing your generators inside the smoker itself.

    Good job.

So is that twin smokers leading in to the box? A MECS and a AMPs maybe?

BTW its too clean to be a smoker.

Foamheart no... not twin feeds. i was experimenting with different smoke gens. the MES cold smoke gen because i used to have an MES 30". found it a little small so i built the BIG freezer build and tried the smoke gen. worked fine but still needed attention. then i found a way to get some pellets and did a mailbox mod. now i have 2 AMNPS, a 12" AMNTS and  a 24" AMNTS (2 12's welded together)

i seem to be mainly using the tube smokers now. lots of smoke and never goes out. uses more pellets than the AMNPS but thats a small sacrifice. i will use the AMNPS for lighter smokes.... like when i do some cheese here in the next few weeks.

the 24" has to go in the smoker as its too large for the mod..

It has nothing to do with the 90 bend. all smokers even straight up will have tar eventually drip back. Thats why when i built mine i went

out the back with a tee . I never get anything dripping back. and when smoking in the winter outside i get alot of condensation collected in the bottom which is capped.
