OK, I have 2 of the Amazen pellet smokers trays and 2 18" tube smokers. I love both styles of them and wouldn't smoke without one or the other.

Now, here's my question, is more smoke generated from the tube than the trays? The reason I ask is, when I use the tray filled with pellets, I don't get nearly as much smoke out the stack as when I use the tube.

With the tube, it's a constant flow of smoke and seems to be of greater volume than with the trays....

It's definitely NOT an issue, just a question that has been on my geeky mind...

Oh, I do have a nice thin blue smoke, just more of it. One of the reasons I love the Amazen products is just that nice clean smoke.. I made several venturi types, and all of them gave me white nasty smoke.

I guess I should say that ones seems to produce a greater volume of smoke than the other.

The tube generates more smoke.... bigger diameter... burns faster.... It was designed to solve 2 problems... high altitude and gas burners in smokers.... both situations have reduced oxygen atmospheres....
For larger volume smokehouses, the tube works great... not that lighting both ends of the 5x8 pellet smoker wouldn't do a similar job...

Perfect sense has been made! Surface area and larger diameter holes in the metal! Yeah, I was out looking at both a bit ago...

I hadn't thought about that until tonight sir. Gracias!

The tube rocks in my vertical that's 6' tall and 28x28". When I put it in my newly built cedar smoke house (40"x20"x20") it is amazing.

Dave hit the nail on the head!

The tube is 2" in diameter

The 1st row of the tray is about 1/3 the volume as the Tube

The Tube produces a lot of smoke

You can fill the Tube with less pellets, and create less smoke

The amount of smoke is perfect, I was just being a geek and wondering why.

Thanks for the replies!

I just got my A-Maze-n pellet smoker friday and have not used it yet, but am excited.  Since the tube produces more smoke than the Maze can I buy another and stack it on top face down so that they are face to face so I have an A-Maze-N pellet super smoker ?

Or should I just use the veggie stir fry tray that I have been using for chips and dust along with the pellet smoker ?

If you need more smoke, light both ends of the AMNPS 5x8

Stacking them may make a mess

Todd:

Thanks for the A-Maze-N smoker invention.  I fired it up last night at the start of the Packers Falcon's game.  Topped it off around half time 10:30? and this morning at 7 it was still smoking.  Worked just like it was supposed to.  Can't wait to put it to work all this week on 150 lbs of bellies.
