crab apple???

I have never user crab apple, but my understanding is that it is similar to regular apple wood. I'm sure you can get an answer from someone that has tried it though.

Like any wood, just make sure it is seasoned and dry.. It can produce a heavy smoke if not ready yet.

I use it regularly with good results.
If you are using chunks for smoke flavor you can use it the same day you cut it from the tree. I have in the past, with no problems.

Just don't try to build a fire with unseasoned wood, it steams and smolders and makes a smoky mess.
