I'm buying a cord of wood and have the option of buying Hickory or Oak for the same price. which would you choose for everyday burn? I'm thinking oak .

An awful lot of stickburners run oak - hickory works great but may be a bit strong for stuff that really takes smoke such as chicken, fish etc... If it were me I would buy the oak. There should be others chime in soon too...

I agree. I'd say it's a good idea to go with the oak as a heat source. Then you can add in sticks or chunks of other wood to vary the flavor. If you use primarily hickory as your heat source, EVERYTHING is going to taste like hickory, even if you add in other wood to try and mask it. Sometimes that might not be the flavor you want.

That's what I was thinking , Thanks for replies

He told me I could have it anyway I wanted it , so I got it 50/50 since he told me he wont have any more seasoned hickory for awhile. and he always has plenty of oak
