Im building a smoker, an offset smoker, to be exact. The main smoking chamber is essentially a 18"x32" by about 30" tall metal box.  I am struggling trying to figure out what I can use as grates inside.  One idea was buying one of those metal freestanding shelves from lowes and cutting the shelves to fit inside. I am capable of cutting metal but not welding. Any ideas?

Hello.  Welcome. I am sorry I missed this earlier.   I see this is your first post.  Please take some time and swing over to Roll Call and introduce yourself so that we may give you a proper "Hello".  All info you can provide us with such as smoker type, location and so on will help us answer any questions you may have, and pictures help a bunch.  As for your question: NO! NO! NO!  You do not know what those shelves are made of.  Buy expanded metal and cut shelves to size.  Keep Smokin!
