Cooking chamber thickness

Hello all, would appreciate some feedback, I have a line on some casing today, 24" and had originally picked out some 3/8. Is this way overkill for the cooking chamber? The price difference where I found this is not going to be much between 1/4 and 3/8. Is weight the only down fall? Most of the ones I see out there are all 1/4"
24" by roughly 70" CC
I was going to go pick this up today before someone else snags it.
