What's the best way to smoke butts ahead of time for later use? When to pull, and how to reheat. Looks like I might have to smoke some the day before use...

Fully cook and pull the pork. To reheat, it can be done in a Crock Pot on High to 165. In bags in simmering water to 165. In a covered pan in a 325 oven to 165. With each method adding some Finishing Sauce will add flavor and moisture. Serve as desired...JJ

Thanks for the thread. I was going to ask same thing, with Memorial Day so much going on i was going to smoke first then reheat and serve a day later. Glad to see it is as easy as i had hoped.

Smoke them and pull when cool enough to handle. Place pulled meat in a baking tray (I usually use disposable foil trays), pour over any juices that have been released during the pull and cover in foil. Refrigerate.

Next day you can warm them up, still covered with foil, in a moderate oven or smoker (about 150 C 300 F) until they reach 74 C (165 F). Part way through heating you may want to stir the meat to help it heat more evenly.

I usually cook my shoulder the day before anyway as I find that it develops even more flavour once it has been reheated.
