I'm hoping to use an 1100 watt hot plate and hoping to achieve temps of over 225. I do have an outside average temperature of 85F + during the day almost everyday. Do you all think 1100 watts will get me there in that somewhat small smoker ?
So I'm guessing you're thinking not strong enough. You know I think I might already have something like that except it probably has no temp control. I got to dig it up when I'm back in the States. I did just buy a new hot plate.

You will have to disassemble the hot plate and remove the safety devices for it to work.... The over temp switch mainly and then fabricate a device to hold the element... It will need rewiring to protect the wires.... Then reinstall the temp control so it will work....
I have done all of the above.... the element in the link is much easier and much safer....
