OK sometimes I get really bored and just want to mess around with stuff. Over the past few years I have made a couple of smokers out of items and then ended up selling them or dismantling them. I am contemplating building a double barrel 55 gallon drum smoker. I have always wanted to do one of those but just never have. I have been trying to find 55 gallon drums in order to build them but have came up short. I have a friend that is a manager at a scrap yard and has some that he can give me however they have had different chemicals in them. I have been told only use new or food grade. Is there anyway to take ones that my friend gives me and make them food safe (like burning them out or using a cleaning solvent). Just need some advice.
