Seeing some of the UDS threads has me wanting one...to the point that I have found a nearby source for clean, food grade barrels. One thing I am wondering about is condensation...does anyone experience any dripping off of the lid? If so, how do you deal with it? Thanks in advance....Inkjunkie...

  2. Use a dome lid and the moisture will not drip.

    This is not good smoke.

    Happy smoken.

I use the flat lid and have not found it to be a problem. If the ventilation, the heat, and smoke is right it should not happen. I use the lid with both bungs taken out and this seems to do the trick. Beware food grade barrels with a red or brown liner in them. Not fun. Depending on the dimensions of your barrel a Weber 22.5 inch kettle lid might fit. Most guys have to weld in a collar for this to work as the barrel diameter is not usually right. I have heard some barrels do fit though.

I contacted the folks that have them listed on CL, they claim to unlined...but Thanks for the reminder. Not sure if the barrel will fit in the back of our Explorer, if I end up having to take my pickemup with the little trailer I am going to grab 2 or 3 of them....never know when the need for a 55 gallon drum will surface....
    Thank You Sir....

Right on. I bought a Weber kettle at a yardsale for 5 bucks when I built mine a few years ago and the barrel was too big for the lid. I don't have a welder so I put that part of the project on the back burner. Since then I really have not had much motivation to do it since the flat lid works just fine. A couple months ago I gifted the old weber to a young couple that were cooking on a kmart special. I got a new performer for my birthday last year so I paid it foreward I guess. I still have my eyes open for another one.
