Hey everyone -

Just got a new smoker the other day.  Got a Brinkman offset smoker from Home Depot.  I grew up in Southern Illinois grilling, but after spending 4 years in Texas during graduate school, I decided I needed to get into smoking.  Since I'm a complete newby, I went with the cheapest offset smoker I could find and am trying to learn the basics as cheaply as possible.

I seasoned the smoker following advice I found here, and I've got a whole chicken smoking as I type this.  Things seem to be going well.  I'm able to maintain temperature for the most part.

I think that, as a rookie, the aspect of smoking that gives me the most trepidation at this point is reading bout mods, but not fully understanding terminology, or methodologies for said mods.

I've used the search feature here in the forums and found some useful threads.  However, I'm wondering if there's anywhere I can find step-by-step mod instructions (here or elsewhere).  I admit, there's a chance that they exist here and I've completely overlooked them.

Anyway, looking forward to getting more involved in the forums and learning from all of the experienced smokers here.

Here's a photo of my biginner's rig.

Good evening and welcome to the forum, from a sunny and hot day here in East Texas. Lots of great people with tons of information on just about  everything.

Thanks One eyed Jack.  Some of those links fit right in with what I was looking for.  I think I'll get started on the mods right away and hopefully my next smoke will be even better than my previous.
