Clueless in Oregon

Hello from Oregon!!

My wife and I are retired senior patriots. I’m a Vietnam vet and drove a delivery truck the last 15 years of my working days.

I just joined this great forum and I have started reading through some of the threads trying to get caught up on those that are of interest to me.

Although I consider myself to be somewhat of an expert when it comes to BBQing due to 30 years of all year round  experience, I am a completely clueless when it comes to smoking but I intend to become very good at it with the help of all the experts in this forum.

My first move is to buy a smoker so I am researching that side of it right now. Once I decide on the smoker I will use, I will try smoking a pork belly using the dry cure method.

So as you can see, I have a lot of research to do so I better get on with it.

Welcome to SMF, you already know your way around the fire part of smoking so you are part way there!!  Everyone has their favorite type of smoker, some of us own more than one.  The homemade units and mods you will find here will either make your smoker selection more complicated or make you want multiples!!  But man are they cool!

First off Welcome Steven to SMF. you'll like it here for there are alot of really good folks here that would just love to help you with just about anything to do with smoking. Now there are alot of proven recipes for some amazing things here too. So if you need sign up for the E-Course it's free and it will give you the basics of smoking and some good methods to use also. So the next big thing for you to do is go out and get you something to smoke and if you happen to have any questions just post it here and we will be happy to answer them for you.
