Cleaning the MES

    Instruction Manual says to wipe with a damp cloth. I find that a bit difficult with some of the splatter. I used soap and water and reseasoned, but that seems a bit much also!

    What do others do for a cleaning regime? My wife says vinegar and water with a soft brush, then wipe or rinse and let it air out. What builds up, builds up.

    Any thoughts?

    cleaning? what's that? I occasionally wipe off the thermometer housing, and scrape out any large deposits of crude, but that's it. The rest is just seasoning.

    I'm pretty sure my lil' chief hasn't been cleaned in over 20 years and it's still going strong.

    I just wipe down the door seal with warm water

    Of course the manual says to wipe the inside out. That way, if you've got a problem with the unit, they can deny the warranty because it wasn't "wiped down". [​IMG]

    Let that inside, season!!

    I clean the seal around the door when deer season opens. That way I don't over do it cause I ain't here. I use a wire bursh to remove the scale off the door and leave the rest alone. Smells like smoke all the time.

    I wipe off the chunky splatter with a damp paper towel, the rest stays [​IMG].

    I clean the cooking racks after every smoke ...along with the water pan and drip pan , which I line each with tinfoil to help with the cleaning ...the rest stays ..... 2 plus years and going strong !!!

    I wipe my down after every use, inside and out. I run all the racks and water pan thru the dishwasher...

    I do pretty much the same thing as Tim.

    I don't necessarily smoke on a regular basis so I prefer not to have the food residue on the grates serving as food for things I'd rather not know have in contact with what I'm gonna eat.
  12. I clean and armour all the wheels on occasion, and run a brass bruss over the grates from time to time but thats about it. As far as the inside goes, never touch it!!!

    Oh my! An over whelming response that causes me less work!

    I did use aluminum foil on the water pan and drip pan and cleaned the grates before putting everything in the dishwasher.



    I love it when a good plan comes together!

    I am pretty much the same as you, T-bone Tim and Homebrew & BBQ. Clean the grate and aluminum foil the water pan and drip pan (yes, I do wash them); the rest is for seasoning..... If I wanted a clean grill each ad every time I would use the oven !!!
