I have always just used hot water to scrub as much of the "gunk" of the inside of my Masterbuilt.  It has worked pretty well, always leaving some residual behind.  My question is:  Has anyone ever used a handheld steamer (it has a small, stiff brush attachment) to clean the inside?  Any reasons not to try it??

You are over thinking it. I clean the racks real good and the drip pan. Then I brush off the loose stuff on the top and bottom. I get it up to temp and let it run for a bit before I add food for the next time.

I see this is your first post. When you get a chance will you drop by roll call so everyone can give you a proper SMF welcome?

Happy smoken.

Another word for smoker is pit. I don't scrub the pit. Racks yes, knock the chunks off. Fire it up, get it hot, cook. If you use a big enough drip pan you should not have a whole lot of grease in the bottom. That stuff on the sides in seasoning.

I'm another guy who doesn't scrub down the inside of my MES 30. As with the others I thoroughly clean the racks and drip pans. I wipe off dried meat and excess grease off the walls and anyplace they've dropped. I brush off the ceiling because stuff will collect there and it will drop down. Like TheMule69 I only put the meat and my therm probes in when the smoker's at the set point temp, which is when I also insert my AMNPS.

Professional pitmasters and smokers don't clean out the insides of their rigs, including those huge box smokers. Check 'em out on TV sometime.
