I have a chargrilled 5050 with SFB and pitmaster IQ 120. It works ok. But because of the thin metal and Leakey doors there is always a battle.. Save your money and get a Weber Smokey Mountain
I have a Chargriller that has done me pretty good over the last 10 years. The only problem I have with it is that it needs attention like a new born baby. I never knew about these temp controllers that stoke the fire for you until today. I don't mind baby sitting the smoker but it would be nice to not have to add wood every 20 minutes. Maybe if it would go for a couple of hours that would be nice.

You will still have to add wood maybe not every twenty minutes but still add at an interval. After much research and discussion with other forum members and on other sites I've gained a huge knowledge of just what these units do.

So for me I choose to bbq at temps around 250* to 275* and. I have a small fan I setup to keep airflow going for my Char-Griller because let's face it without a direct wind it lacks a really good airflow/draft in these units. I watch my temps with a Maverick remote thermometer and turn on fan if it drops and off when I approach temps...its a hassle but it's ok because I am usually sitting there by smoker anyways.

These Smoker PID Controllers just do all that for you...you set maximum and minimum temps for the pit aND it just turns it on when needed and off as it approaches the upper temperature. Would be really nice to have but I'm going to invest my money for now in my Bradley electric smoker where PID controllers are way more effective.

If you have any questions I also have a new thermo blanket that I have made that greatly increases temp recovery and stabilization as long as some other mods have been done!!
