Im still having trouble learning this thing. Anybody with advice please help. Only smokes on smoke setting. No smok when on cook. Should I have bought a Traeger?

What temp(s) have you tried? The higher the temp, the less smoke you will get.

In regards to what you should / shouldn't have bought - Traeger and Char Griller are about the same quality product in my opinion.  I don't think you'll see a significant difference until you jump up a level or two in the pellet market.

In regards to smoke output - the truth is that you are getting smoke, but it is much cleaner than what you are likely used to and probably a much fainter taste.  I personally think most people are used to oversmoked food, but that's just my opinion.  One way to tell is to put your eyes right over the grill or by the chimney - I guarantee you that you will feel the smoke in your eyes if you do that.  If it just isn't enough smoke for you, add an amazen smoke tube to your setup.  If I want extra smoke, I place a smoke tube in the bottom of my chamber, next to the fire pot.

Thanks westby. I just would really like to learn all i can. With the $600 i spent ive been disappointed with how it functions. My rub and bbq sauce is just fine. I feel i had better results with me $70 small webber charcoal grill. Any info you keep coming with is much appreciated.
Thanks Lucas

Smokinadam. I use treager brand pellets. I get great taste results on smoke mode. Just zero smoke on cook mode. If i want to cook for long hours
... Set it and forget it im unable to aquire any smoke

are you concerned that you don't see smoke coming out? Personally I'm not a fan of traeger pellets at all because of the oil in infuse in them. Try p4. I have one of these and run it there, my late father had one that he ran always on that (he would of let me know if it didn't smoke like the traeger at our cottage) , neighbor also has one which he never complained of this issue.

You are starting it with the lid open and on smoke? After it gets going closing the lid and placing your desired temp?

Yes, I feel like Im starting it correctly. The more answers im getting is that its just burning really clean smoke and its not as visible as what you see on smoke mode. When i run smoke mode i usually run it on p4/p5 and clearly see smoke rollin from the smoker. Just not much smoke or smoke flavor on cook mode. I might wanna check out 1 of those amoke tubes people keep refering to me

try your regular smoke on p4 and see how that works. If you want to see smoke the only way I've had it was on smoke but every so often it does have some smoke out of the top. Do you have the vent turned all the way up? I do pizzas on p7 and they taste like wood fire za
