I think this is the right place to ask this, but I'm new to the forums and am just now starting to get into smoking and grilling.

I live in a small apartment, and my girlfriend just got me a Char Broil offset smoker that I just seasoned last weekend. My problem is the temp gauge just shows Warm Ideal and Hot. I tried finding a replacement at Wal Mart and a local hardware store with no luck. The hardware store had a really nice one made by Telru that unfortunately didn't look like it would fit.

I ended up trying to work around the OEM temp gauge and started off with bacon wrapped chicken breasts. Let's just say the results were still good but not as good as they could've been. How can I work around this?

I have a Charbroil American Gourmet 450? I think.. it's a small one

The teltru is a great temp gauge. I have the same model as you. If you have access to a drill & a 1" hole saw just make the hole bigger & the teltru will fit. They're are some great post on here about mods. Just type charbroil offset smoker mods in the search bar & you'll find tons of great info. I've got about $30 in cheap mods that have this smoker working great for me.
