Just wondering where people are getting their charcoal baskets from for the CGSP. Its one of the last mods I need to make.

I think most people are making their own. I've seen some people use grilling baskets, and while I've never tried it, I'd have to think they wouldn't last long given the high temperatures of the firebox.

Expanded metal is the material of choice for the better one's I've seen. You'll have to do a search to find it, but the best one I've seen, the basket hangs on the grate holders in the firebox. This keeps the bottom of the basket above the ash tray, allowing you to remove the tray without disrupting the basket.

I agree , even though I just bought a basket from lowes because they didn't have the expanded metal.

Seems too small to hold much coal and not deep enough to get the heat through my damper plate. It works , but just OK so far for me.

OK sounds good. Now I just need to find a place to get some expanded metal in the Cincinnati area. Thanks for the info geek

Your basket is on page 2 of the thread.

I got something more like a deep fryer basket , it works ok this way but sits in the ash pan. I cut the handle off and spun it 90* and it sits on the grate rails in the fire box but only spans about 1/2 the lengthof the box

I've got the Silver Smoker and I made an expanded metal basket by buying a piece of scrap expanded metal at a local welding shop and having them cut it out.. I made it 10 x 14 inches with 5 in high sides. I cut it out of one piece and then beat the sides into place with a sledge hammer and an anvil with a helper. I wired a couple of pieces of angle iron that are longer than the basket is wide. 12 1/2 for mine and they hold the basket higher off the bottom of the fire box so I get better airflow. It doesn't have a sliding drawer, I have to scrape the ashes out with a small trowel into a metal bucket. (It is a good idea to let the ashes rest for 2 or 3 days or to wet them down good before putting them in the trash dumpster or trash can. The ashes can hold heat for several days if they are deep enough and it is not uncommon to see a trash truck on fire. Semper Fi.
