My first post of hopefully many... : )

OH THE SUNDAY MORNIN' CURSIN...

Since 6 am... it's 7:15 now I've been trying to get my lil' pit going for some all day Brisket smokin' and mother nature has stuck it to me again!

Finally dawned on me to drizzle some newspaper in oil to get my chimminey (sp) kickin'!  So I'm crossing my fingers this works out, if any of you good folks has any other hints/helpers please pass them along to me, Thanks!!

Well first off Welcome to SMF! If you could head over to Roll Call and Introduce yourself so everyone will get a chance to know who you are, the Admins would be Happy!! As for as Mother Nature goes I fell your pain. Over here at 6 AM you have to swim through the humidity to get to your smoker....LOL! The paper and oil should do the trick.

Glad to have you with us at SMF. As for tips on getting the stuff in the chimney to burn quickly, instead of drizzling newspaper in oil, get a few paper towels and lightly coat them with vegetable oil. They will burn slowly (like a candle wick) and will get the coals/lump heated up nicely on the bottom to spread upwards to the top.

Welcome to the SMF. I'm sure you'll have some good advise real soon. I moved your thread to roll call so that everyone can welcome you. It's ll good my friend.

If the oil soaked paper doesn't work ,more than likely your coals have absorbed enough moisture to make them allmost impossible to light w/o using  a torch or fuel.

If that is the case ,I would go buy more coals.

BTW ,Welcome to my addiction. Nice to have another inmate in the assylem

Welcome to SMF glad you decided to join us. If you have a propane turkey fryer or a torch that works well other than that the paper towel soaked method works well. Good luck with the smoke hope ya got it going

Welcome! This is a great place and you're gonna get addicted. Hi, my name is Squirrel and I'm a smokaholic.

Welcome to the SMF. Glad to have you here. Lots of good folks, great recipes and knowledge. Looking forward to your first qview.

HOLY SMOKE STACKS BATMAN!!!
I feel totally welcomed!

Thanks for the move to roll call, I havent posted on a forum in years so it will take me some getting used to again, appologies now for any screw ups to come!

I'm exhausted but I promise to post more tomorrow!!!

P.S. the brisket is fandamtastic!!!!!!!

Terry, I'm a little late in welcoming you to SMF, but it sounds like you hit a winner with that brisket. As you have noticed, the folks here are most helpful when it comes to help those that are new to the art of smoking meats.

What type of smoker are you using? We like looking at all the various toys-um-I mean smokers!

You could dry the coals in an oven or grill on low heat

First off welcome Terry to SMF. You'll like it here cause there are alot of really good folks that would just love to help you with anything to do with smoking. Now we like having new folks here to give a new prospective on some of the ways we do things around here. Now if you are really new then I would suggest that you sign up fir the 5-day E-course it free and it will give you the basics on smoking and a few recipes too. Here's a link to it:

http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/forum/list/127

then you will have a method to your newly found madness and believe me it will be a madness. Then when you start smoking things you will have to learn how to post the pictures / Qview

here. So here's a link to a tutorial on how to post your Qview so we can see what your doing.

 http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/forum/thread/82034/how-to-post-qview-to-smf

Now the next thing you have to do is run out and get something to smoke. Then just smoke it and if you have any questions just post  them here and we will answer all your questions that you might have. Oh yea there's no stupid questions we were all there in the beginning and we just really like to help others enjoy the fabulous smoked foods that we do. So again
