looking to buy an MES and wondering if you could buy jerky racks and use the smoker without smoke to dehydrate fruits and such. I am a newbie here so any help on the capabilities of this unit would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Good morning and WELCOME!

It's possible? I dehydrate garlic at 110 deg. in a machine designed for dehydrating.  With all dampers open and chip drawer removed and the addition of a small fan (computer type) for circulation, it could be a very good dehydrator. Some of your stuff may smell like smoke? Not a bad thing.

Welcome to SMF. There are a lot of very friendly & knowledgeable folks here to help you. I urge you to sign up for the free E-course. It will give you the basics, & even if you are an experienced smoker you may learn something new. Then start asking questions. Good luck & glad to have you aboard. Don't forget we all love Qview! Now, if you would go to the roll call section & introduce yourself, we can give you a proper welcome.

I use a dehydrator, but will try jerky in my MES next time.

Has anyone found stacking racks that fit a MES.. I used a 3-tired set from Wallyworld I got for $9.

I would think you could, but would need to take out or at least not fill the water pan as that would defeat the purpose.  I've done some several times on my Big Chief electric that turned out awesome.
