Can you dehydrate with an MES?

Discussion in 'Electric Smokers' started by browningshooter, Feb 12, 2011.

  1. looking to buy an MES and wondering if you could buy jerky racks and use the smoker without smoke to dehydrate fruits and such. I am a newbie here so any help on the capabilities of this unit would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Good morning and WELCOME!

It's possible? I dehydrate garlic at 110 deg. in a machine designed for dehydrating.  With all dampers open and chip drawer removed and the addition of a small fan (computer type) for circulation, it could be a very good dehydrator. Some of your stuff may smell like smoke? Not a bad thing. [IMG]

I use a dehydrator, but will try jerky in my MES next time.

Has anyone found stacking racks that fit a MES.. I used a 3-tired set from Wallyworld I got for $9.

I would think you could, but would need to take out or at least not fill the water pan as that would defeat the purpose.  I've done some several times on my Big Chief electric that turned out awesome.
