Always looking to improve my smoker I am looking for Ideas, for futer mods to my Fridge smoker.

I Did a search with not many results...

I am wondering if those of you that have made fridge smokers would post pics of yours.

I would also be like to know anything you might change? WHat your heat source is? how you sealed the door? Air inlets as well as outlets? ANy fans for circulation? What temps you can maintain? Drip shields? or any other info you may want to share.

I would really love to see your ideas!!! Thanks

I've posted mine before, but here it is. This is my second version. Its an old Kenmore deep freeze with porcelain on steel liner. Heated with a Brinkman ECB conversion element (110V) nearly the size of my oven element. Left the magnetic seals in place, removed all plastic and replaced with galv. flashing tin, which I shaped with 2x4s as a sort of sheet metal brake. Smoke is separately generated in my old Lil Chief smoker, just as a box, use a paint bucket to hold sawdust, electrical charcoal lighter to ignite it. Ducted into the main box and pushed with a computer fan. This is also my air inlet area. Then a regular dampered vent pipe on the top for exhaust. I use two cookie sheets for drip pans with an inverted sheetmetal angle over the seam to channel flow into the pans. Tstat from Allied Kenco as is the capillary thermometer. Like everyone, a work in progress:

Yes it does. I don't remember the exact price but a 4' X 8' sheet was something crazy like 3 or 4 hundred bucks.....I found a guy that had a scrap peice that he would sell me for $60, there was enough expanded aluminum in scrap that he had to make six 23" X 23" shelves. The guy even cut it to size and welded aluminum reinforcements on it for that. I am still looking for another deal like that, I have room for I think 6 more shelves !!!

Fireguy, I just use regular steel expanded metal (#9 raised on the new one, provides a bit more rigidity). A lot cheaper than aluminum or stainless, and once seasoned, every bit as effective. Not to say I wouldn't use stainless or aluminum if I could get them reasonably. They are the holy grail of this hobby. That stainless conversion is awsome.
