Buying wood chunks?

Discussion in 'Roll Call' started by jlansink, Mar 12, 2008.

  1. Hate to say it, but we don't have much wood to burn in suburbia SC! Just pine and even I'm not dumb enough to try that.

So, where have people found the best places on the web to purchase wood?

    thanks in advance.

Let me start by saying, Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately, I cannot help you with that question. But I am sure someone will be along that can answer it for you.

Call some tree timming services, they can usually hook you up unless you are looking for something that does not grow outside of your area. You may even find that they will trade some wood for ribs.
  4. I have purchased on occasion from E Bay. Most suppliers will combine shipping so if you can order a good sized quantity of whatever wood you may be looking for. They will also mix and match species for you. [IMG]

What kind of smoker do you use? If you are using electric or propane and only need small pieces you can find them at most outdoor sports stores like Sportmans Warehouse, Gander Mountain, etc. Even Wal*Mart and Lowes usually carry some.

I get mine from Cabelas. They just put one up about 20 miles from my house. Big chunks of Cherry, Hickory, Apple, Maple, Alder. Also sell the chips and briquettes for the Bradleys. You can order online also.

Around here Walmart and lowes and home depot and Menards and the tractor supply stores all carry chips and some chunks.....Might want to look around and see what you can find......I think even Sam's club has wood too...I know Sams has pellets.......

Going to depend on the type of wood you need. If you need chunks go with one of the big box stores mentioned earlier. If you need a lot and want a lot of variety you might try

    Good luck,
