I have been in the market for a while now for a pellet smoker. I have gone crazy trying to decide which to purchase and I am leaning towards getting a MAK 1 or 2 star.

I have found someone selling a 2 star built in 2010. The owner has offered to have it upgraded to the lastest controller and SS however it is still a used smoker. He has offered it for $1500 including the upgrades.

Does this seem like a good deal?

Anyone recommend just getting a new 1 star for this price?

Or better to save up for a new 2 star?

He also has many accessories and has upgrade the flame zone so it is a nice complete set.

Any advice?

Just 1 man's opinion, but that's probably not a bad price if it's still in good shape.  Those 2 Stars are real nice rigs.  A new one will retail for around $2500, plus add-ons.  Just keep in mind...it's a 5 year old grill, so I'd want to know if it was stored outdoors or indoors...could affect whether there's any corrosion or serious wear anywhere.  The upgrades are a nice extra as long as the pit itself is still solid.  If it were me, I'd probably offer him less and see if he's willing to negotiate.

Let us know if you get it...and show it off with some qview!

Thanks for the advice, it seems to be in pretty good condition given that it is 5yrs old. The owner is going to talk to MAK Grills and see about the upgrades and see if any of the cosmetic issues can be fixed at that time.
