Butt with alcohol spritz..um mop ?????

    I use apple juice and Capt Morgan for a mop. Question I have is will all the alcohol evap? We have some friends coming over tomorrow and he is a recovering alcoholic. I know alcohol evaps around 170, but if I mop up until I foil and add some to the foil and cook till 200 will there still be too much there. Quess I could use a diff mop this time, but like the flavor the capt. adds.

    It will be fine, it will evaperate off, i have used whisky spritz'z at our church cook outs, never been busted yet

    Use the rum in the spritz and put just apple juice in the foil. That should make sure all the alcohol evaporates.

    You could also simmer the rum for a few min.... Umm use an ELECTRIC heater, or do it outside and expect a flame for a short time. This will remove it.

    Butt flambe'. Had that before. That happens the next day when you eat too many ABT's!!
    I know what you're saying Rich. Saw that on TV once to get rid of the alcohol.

    I use a fair amount a whishkey in my spritz, it simply evaporates away an leaves the flavor. Nobody ever got drunk eatin my Q yet! Otherwise they'd hang round longer I'm sure!

    I use whisky and feed my 10 year old daughter the grub. You'll be good.
  9. The only thing I would check, is if you friend is taking Anabuse or not. I remember my mom having some pretty bad reactions when having food cooked (cooking sherry in a sauce if I remember correctly) that still had trace amounts of alcohol left.

    It helped her in the long run, but that's some mean stuff...

    Just a thought... It may be just the taste of booze that flips that switch to drink again. IMO it may not have to be the alcohol in the food, just the taste of that old friend brings back that memory. JMO>

    I called him this morn to be sure. Said it's not a problem if it cooks out. So I did what meowey suggested and used the Capt up till I foiled and just added the AJ when I foiled. That is a good thought though. Think I should do some fatties just in case. Like I need an excuse to do those!

    Any excuse to do a fatty or two is a good one but I think you'll be fine with your spritz/mop. A couple big ole fattys never hurt tho [​IMG]

    Buzz that's funny. Prolly shouldn't but I laughed hard. "Haven't been busted yet".

    Guess my next Church cookout I'll have to pay more attention. :)
