I didn't want to start this thread cause I know there's a butt rub on this site somewhere but here it goes (been doin a bunch of searches but couldn't find one).
It was just announced to me that we are having people over for tomorrow and she wants me to do a butt for pulled pork. I haven't even tried one yet. I guess she saw a bbq show and decided that's what she wanted. I have read all about smoking them but everyone is buying their rubs it seems like. I would try Jeff's but I don't have time. Can someone help with a butt rub. (now that sounded funky).
One more question, should I use my spit for butt?

Thanx gang,
Ray

You could try purchasing the recipe to Jeff's Naked Rib Rub and Sauce.

http://www.smoking-meat.com/jeffs-na...l#SpecialOffer

I purchased this a few months back and have used it on several of my butts, and I think it is quite good. In fact, my wife prefers it over a more spicy commercial rub which has a little more heat than she prefers. Jeff's rub has just the right amount of heat to provide spice to the butt without it being overwhelming for even those that are sensitive to the heat. Jeff's sauce recipe (included in the purchase) is quite good as well. This is a great purchase because, and you can use it as is or as a starting point for your own recipe.

Also, for the butt, don't forget Jeff's (very simple) finishing sauce recipe (free) for right after it's pulled. In fact, I don't use any BBQ sauce on my pulled pork as this finishing sauce is sufficient to me.

I use a bastardized form of Wild Willy's Number One for most cooks.
I adjust it based on what I'm cooking. More brown sugar for butts and ribs.
Chipotle pepper for beef.

Going to apple powder this weekend to test out for a rib cooking comp I'm doing in two weeks.

Here's the basic Wild Willys Number One pulled from somewhere on the web.
  • 3/4 cup paprika
  • 1/4 cup ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons cayenne

Just in case you weren't aware, once you purchase it, it's available for immediate download. If you have the ingredients, then it takes like 5-10 minutes to make.

Yea, what he said. You can make the purchase in minutes, and the ingredients are all pretty common. Smoking is all about time. :) If you don't have 5 minutes to spare, how you gonna smoke a prok butt? lol, That was a joke.

But there are a ton of other rub recipes, as the links already provided can show you. But no worries about time with Jeff's recipe, as long as you use paypal, you get the almost immediate download. And the rub only takes minutes to prepare.

Heres What I use sweet and simple not alot of salt

· 1/2 cup brown sugar
· 1/4 cup paprika
· 1 tablespoon black pepper
· 1 tablespoon salt
· 1 tablespoon chili powder
· 1 tablespoon garlic powder
· 1 tablespoon onion powder
· 1 teaspoon cayenne

Thanx alot all. I didn't realize you could download Jeff's Recipes. I just thought he would send it prepackaged like you buy at the store. Well anyhow, I had to get things goin bout 5 this mornin to satisfy her heiness.
Thank you again. I'll put up a q'view -if this works out-.
