I've been making my own rub for a while now & want to try something different. I'm don't want something sweet. Not looking for something overly hot either. I'm really looking for a rub to compliment the natural pork flavor, not overwhelm it.

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried Jeff's rub? It is excellent on butt or ribs or most things for that matter. I'm sure others will be along there are as many rub recipes as there are members here

^^ what he said ^^ just be sure not to buy and enhanced one like I did .

The smoke is KEY on smoking a butt and the pork has great flavor on it's on .

I have been making rubs for 10 years and my favorite is Jeffs Rub. I wish I had discovered it a long time ago. It sure would have saved me a lot of time and money.

I agree with the other posts above that Jeff makes a excellent rub and BBQ sauce too. He has spent quite a bit of time dialing it in and has definately got it down. You will see a link at the top of the page for his rib rub and sauce. The money you will spend helps keep this place running, so it is money well spent and if you don't like ( although I know you will) he will refund your money.

I have found a rub by old bay and it's pretty darn good too. It's not the same old seasonings for fish but it has a kick to it too.
