Burr Grinders

    Some time back I was looking for info on a hand crank burr grinder $ 60....

    Well, yesterday at Costco I found a Krups Burr Grinder for $ 29...

    I will use it for coffee today 'cause we have blade grinders for spices and coffee now...

    The price was very good for a burr grinder and I thought I would pass this along for "under the tree" ideas for folks here....

    I cannot recommend it at this time cause it's new.... we will see... there are mixed reviews but for $29 ????

    If anyone wants to review it here... Please do so... good or bad it.... your opinions are welcome...   Dave

    Looks like a good deal to me. I paid about twice that for our burr grinder.

    I was checking out that unit at Costco but a few of the reviews on the internet and a serious lack of funds a few months ago led me to the $20 Krups blade grinder. When you try it out post a thorough review for us would you.

    OK, I ground coffee in it........  I tried to turn the grinder on and ...NOTHING.... crud... I live 100 miles from Costco and I ain't driving 200 miles to return and exchange it.... took a short break and went back to the machine... turned it on and nothing..... gave it a shake and... it ran intermittantly..... WHAT!!!... a loose wire ????..... I grabbed the lid and grinder and turned it upside down and it worked.... WHAT !!!.....  set it down and turned it on and it ran fine..... WHAT !!!....

    So I looked for the safety switch under where the lid fits onto the body..... a very small safety switch and the switch worked fine by depressing it with a small device....

    OK... I determined (after a few minutes messin' with stuff) that the "new plastic" lid and body of the grinder were "sticking" because the plastic was new and the lid would not reach the safety switch unless the lid was depressed fully into the slot where the switch was located.... sprayed a paper towel with silicone spray and wiped the exterior of the grinding chamber.... also wiped the interior/exterior of the lid where it came in contact with other plastic pieces....

    Works like a charm for now.... grinds the coffee very fast and gives a consistent grind to all the grounds.... I used the mid setting for grind size and it was much finer than store bought perk type coffee....  perfect for drip.... I believe this mid setting would do well for spices for rubs or possibly even a little coarser would be better....

    Looking at the burr grinding plates I think they might be ceramic.... kind of a dark grey color.... If they were carbide I think the unit would be more expensive... but what do I know... not much...

    For now I am happy.... very pleased with its performance in 1st try... I would think grinding spices would be a snap..... for $29 it is a gamble... hope I get lucky...   Dave

    Never had a problem with mine, except for the noise.  Good way to get the wife out of bed, grind some coffee, works every time.

    Yup...Noisy, but been using mine for 2 years now and no problems

    Well, the grinder don't work no more....   The switch that turns it on and off, gave up....   I can't find anyway to fix it...  no way to take the unit apart....   I think it's all press fit together...   No screws....  nothing......  

    Anyone know how to take this thing apart ????   or replace the switch ????

    Sorry, Dave . I'm not Electronically handy ; however, I would be sending it back to the MFG. with a "Thank You " letter about the experience...

    Just sayin'...
