Well hell, I was going to package up some bacon last night and found out my wife had dropped my food Saver and knocked off the gate. I fixed that easily but them found the heater element wouldn't heat enough to seal the bags any more! I bought this unit 13 years ago for $139 at Costco in Oregon. Think it's worth sending it back to the company or will they just laugh at me and tell me to buy another one?

13 years! Holy cow I'd say you definitely got your moneys worth on that one! Do you still have the original receipt?

Not meaning to be funny, but, if you made and sold a blender 13 years ago, and someone brought one to you saying to fix it, what would you do? I'd laugh and say you got a great bargain and to go buy another one.

BTW, probabaly more expensive to ship it to the manufactorer, fix it, and pay to get it back.

Send it back and see what happens. Might include a note stating how much you like it. I had a Char Broil grill that I lost the lid to. It was a good 6 years old w/ no receipt. I e-mailed and stated that I lost it due to my own idiocy and lo and behold they sent me a new lid at their expense. They might surprise you.

I agree Jim send it back with a note that lets them know that u belong here where 100s have and stand behind foodsavers.can't hurt.and by the way there still about that price at costco.

jim, i dont think they will do anything for you as unit out pf warranty. but call cust srvc and ck if they have refurbs avail, i used to get them for 30.00 bucks from them before i upgraded to a vacu-pack.

I'd like to have gone 13 years. The food saver I've got won't seal and it's not 6 months old. Bad news is wife gave it to me as a gift and said she lost the receipt. Not sure what to do with it now.

Contact the company. Expecting a new unit because of user error is a bit of a strech, but you never know. Further more, they may still have parts or provide service or rebuilts. Some companies will send you a coupon or voucher good for or towards a new unit. If you call by telephone and get an A$$hole on the other end, try one or two more times until you at least get someone that you can talk to. (I have had to do this before)

I have a buddy that is one fast and smooooooooth talker, he would most likely end up cutting some kind of deal where he would buy $100 worth of bags at half price and they throw in the machine. I don't know how he does it but he is a con man to be proud of!

At any rate, good luck!

Send it back. I have had 6 of these things and all went bad. Heat strip messed up. At least they will get the msg that they should make a better product. After 13 years is not out of line for appliances. How old is your fridge, stove, etc. It's the same thing. Just cost less.
