Brisket - Where can I get one around Baltimore, Washington or Annapolis for around $2.00 a pound ?

  1. ANYBODY ???  I see all these $1.98 stuff you guys buy and I want some. Smoke house around here selling it cooked for $11 a pound (KBQ).

    I don't know what store chains are in your area...my source for packers is Sam's Club or Walmart Supercenter...was 1.88/lb @ Sam's until a few months back...now it's 1.98, but Walmart is 2.29 reg, and sometimes on sale for 1.88. Center cuts (trimmed flat cut) @ Walmart are reg 3.44/lb, Sam's are 3.29 (if I remember correctly).

    Maybe if you can't find a reasonably priced source locally, you can wait until you have a day trip planned and bring a cooler to ice-down and fill with packers to take home? That's what we do about 3 times a year.

    The BJs in Columbia has them, but cost is more like $3 or $4 per pound.  I've not been tempted.  Their prices on pork butts are pretty good compared to grocery stores -- $1.49 or so.

    I always get mine at Sams club or Walmart.
     
  6. ditto here for Walmart - In Virginia they normally have the full packer for $1.98 a pound. I will sometimes get it from Costco for $1.88 however from I've found it's hit or miss (quality wise) from Costco

    What is meant by "full packer"?  The prices being quoted here on them seem well less than the prices on brisket that I have seen in BJs (cryovac).

    Full packer is the flat/point intact and un-trimmed. About 1/3 of a packer is fat-cap and fat inbetween the two muscles. You're paying for trimming off fat etc. when you buy a center cut (trimmed flat)...but without the point, you get no burnt ends [​IMG]

    Having spent the best part of the last 10 years in Annapolis, I can tell you the DC "pricing area" extends there. Nothing in a grocery store is reasonably priced, not even neck bones.

    I'll be doing my first Brisket tomorrow.  Picked up a 13 pounder from Restaurant depot yesterday.  $2.04/lb  Full Packer.  Beats the crap out of grocery store prices.

    If you know a restaurant owner with a membership, I'd suggest you borrow their card!

  12. Went by the Walmart in Severn. They had packers for $2. Looks like a lot of fat on there, like 1/2" thick. Well at least I know where to buy, now just got to study up on the how to. 

    That Restaurant Depot would be field day for me. Too bad I don't have the credentials. Maybe I could hang out in front like an underage kid in front of the liquor store.
     
  13. I just got a 12.69 lp packer from Cash & Carry for $2.02 very nice Q'ed up tender & juicy, I was very happy.

    I was in SysCo today.  It is a restaurant supply store open to the public.  Location is US route 1, south of route 100 by less than a mile -- on the right heading south, next to a flea market.  They have lots of good things and are worth putting on your radar if you live anywhere close by.  Today, I spotted what looks like the guys here are calling a packer brisket priced at $2.09 per pound.  They did not have weights on them, but I'd guess well more than 10 pounds.  Had a *lot* of fat on it, especially at the wider end.
