I have a five pound flat brisket i am going to smoke tomorrow i have been reading up on lots of ways to do this, I really like the look of the searing method, anyway does anyone brine or marinade their brisket,I havent seen any one do this, just curious

I'll tell you what sounds good...  Dry rub and sear over coals to get good color and caramelization, smoke it low and slow for a couple of hours and then put it in foil with beef broth.  It won't end up with bark but it'll taste fantastic i bet.
