What is the average price yall find on brisket?? are the prices different between packers per pound, and fresh briskets per pound? Just wondering what i should look for when buying my first one soon. THanks

I've seen them as low as $1.19 to $1.99 for packers. Usually in the $1.48 area. If it is $3+ it is a trimmed brisket, I don't care for those.

Get a packer from 8-10#. I like these better than the 12#ers anymore, I used to only by 12# briskets.

Good luck

WOW! definiitely need to look for packers. I wento to the local butcher, he said it would run me about $3.80 per pound. Im assuming it was trimmed and clean. Thanks for the heads up

Hey Charles don't get your hopes up on that price. I bought one 2 weeks ago for 3.49 a lb. and that was for the packer. I guess it just matters where you live. It took me a while to even find a store that knew what a brisket was. Don't even think about going to a supermarket up here and ask for a Boston Butt.

1.68/# here at super wally for whole packers, local wholesaler is a little cheaper if you buy a 5 pack case

Couldn't find any packer here today they were all flats and $3.99 a pound at WalMart no less! Yikes! The packers are normally around $2.79 here.

$3.99/Lb for flats here at Shaws...no butchers here...just "meat cutters" don't know the difference between a whole packer and a whole flat...
Deb...
Sam's club in Manchester has had the best selection for anything you wanted, I have seen in my travels..just sorry I didn't have a cooler with me the time we were there...

I paid a little less than 1.40 per pound last Sunday. Like was just said, holiday coming up so the price will be higher too. It seems like not too long ago I could find them about anywhere in Oklahoma for .99 per pound but not anymore.

Warming up with a brisket Sat. eve. Thinking beef ribs for labor day, for the fat union cows...heh.. <just a funny, guys. I'm in MI and hurting too>

We don't have a Shaws here they went under. WalMart, Stop and Shop and ShopRite. I think the closest SamClubs is either Harford of Warwic, RI for me. BJ's is closer but I haven't had much luck with their meats. The last butts I bought there were all fat iside almost no meat and stringy!

I have heard alot about Machester being a good place to shop. It's about an hour from here - I'll have to check it out some weekend.

here they are $1.37/lb at wally world; $1.48/lb at my local grocery stoer; and $1.58/lb at a meat packer. that is for what we call a packer. the meat packer told me he couldn't get packers. i was thinking, "wtf?". then he said he has them in the cryovac package like they come in (pretrimmed). i told him that is what i wanted. he said a true packer has a bone in it. dutch? any other butchers/ex-butchers out there know what he means? i found out friday where i can get a clod for $1.79/lb.

I have yet to find a packer around these parts. The only place I can find any brisket at all is BJ's Wholesale Club, and they are flats @ $3.99 lb!

I stopped there yesterday and picked through what they had... found one with somewhat of a point on it, weighing in at almost 8 pounds. It came home with me...

I think I paid 2.19 at Dillons on sale. My wife stuck it in the freezer and said it was hers. She wants to do it in the oven. Ill only grumble a little cause I dont complain much when someone cooks for ME. Next time Ill buy two.

Just picked up my first brisket today.. BJ's was out of them.. The local butcher does not carry them. Price chopper is 3.99 and I got a small one at Stop n Shop for 3.84 untrimmed in the vac pac, it was only 4.5 lbs.. I need to shop for a larger one the next one I smoke..
