Brinkmann ECB or Split Door ??

Discussion in 'Charcoal Smokers' started by dk666, Jan 16, 2010.

  1. I had a Brinkmann all in one smoker but it died finally I need to replace with a new Smoker but not looking to go nuts only going to have it 6-24 months till I move. I haven't smoked a lot in a long time but looking to startup again out on the patio of a condo where I have used the All in 1.
Which would be the better pickup the bullet one is like $40 the other is like $70 at the local home depot not a big deal $30 between the 2.
Which is easier to put together and needs the least mods to get working and overall easier to use etc. I keep going back and forth on which one to go with

  2. I am currently doing my second smoke on the square one, and have had numerous problems. I still need to mod some more, cant keep a temp at 240 for over an hour without LOTS of work. I believe everyone here has reasoning for the bullet as the starter. Also there is not very much cooking space on the square one.

    Welcome To Your New Addiction

  4. If you can find Brinkmann Gourmet charcoal smoker, I'd recommend that over the cheaper bullet OR the square vertical...with just a couple simple mods, that can be found on this site, you'll have a easy-to-use smoker. Last time I saw one at Home Depot the cost was around $60, I think.
I still use my ecb gourmet for smaller smokes, and the drum for larger smokes.

    Hope this helps...

    Eric

Hi, and welcome. You said you only will need it till you move - what's your plan after that?
If it were me, I would look at a WSM. They are more expensive, but they are quality and will last you a while.
You could also check out Craigslist, you may find something there that will get you what you want.
    Good luck!

  6. Thanks for all the replys guys
I'm losing my job start of April and plan to windup in Tenn at some point over the next yr or 2 then I'll buy a better one that's going to be used for many yrs I hope at that time , right now It's just me and the dog so don't need to be able to do a ton of meat but would like to be able to do a Turkey If I want next Tday I'm think I'm leaning toward the Split door right now seems easier to get to the coals water etc and should hold more if I need it to then the ECB . But knowing me I'll probley cheapout when I get to the store to buy it !! LOL $30 bucks would buy a nice Deep dish Pizza here LOL

  7. Something to be aware of is that the "ecb" designation covers a variety of different smokers. the cheapest these days, I believe is called the Brinkmann Smoke-N-Pit. There are mods for this model that make it easier to use.

The Brinkmann Vertical smoker has, IMHO, become rather cheaply made...flimsy, if you will, in recent years.

The final decision is, of course, yours...but, I would strongly suggest you take a closer look at the Brinkmann Gourmet charcoal smoker...it, too, is very easy to add more charcoal, and if you use water...(I don't)...it has a side door that allows you to add water easily with a plant watering pitcher. Not to mention, that with a couple simple mods, it is pretty stable on temps.
