Brinkman Propane gasser conversion

    Holding low temps in my vertical Brinkman is impossible. So here is my thought to make it a multi-purpose smoker. If I put an electric hot plate on the bottom of the smoker and put a cast iron frypan filled with chips/sawdust I should be able to use it to cold smoke and make jerky. Any suggestions or thoughts?
     
  2. What size burner did you put in it....I converted mine with a 30,000 BTU and can get stable low temps........

    I want to try this with my ECB.  I have an old propane grill that I gould hack the side burner off or I have a turkey fryer.  Has anyone ever tried this?

    i coverted my electric ecb to a propane with the gasssmoker coversion.

    i put a grate on top of the burner with some lavarock then use a metal woodchip box

    for smoke. added a new thermometor at grate level. this thing holds temp almost perfect.

    always a good smoke ring on my que. probally wound up with about 100.00 in the whole set up.

    Rick,

     I have a question.

     I never have used a gas smoker but used to have a gas pit.

     what is the purpose of using lava rocks in a smoker?

     couldn't you just put a rack above the banjo burner to hold a chip box/pan ???

    eman you are probally right about the lava rocks. you see years ago i bought a little propane smoken/grill

    from brinkman it had lava rock probably for the grill optoin i got used to the setup so when i converted

    this one i did it like that. also i wanted a little space between the chipbox and the burner.

    who knows it may help stabalize the temp.
