I haven't smoked anything in a long time but I found this smoker at an unbelievable deal and could not pass it up.
So here I am trying to get it going and I cannot for the life of me get the grill temp above 250f. I have almost 10 pounds of charcoal burning in the box, intake wide open, exhaust is closed and the stack is 80% open.
White smoke exiting the stack and the max temp in the grill is 250f. Have been trying to get the temp up to 300f to get a pork shoulder in there but time is passing and I am at my wits end.
I should have never given my old smoker away when I last moved. It was 20 years old and I had it dialed in.

I have the same isdue with my old offsett barrel smoker. Sometimes ill throw a little charcoal in the main firebox too get the heat higher if I need it in the colder part of the year... my problem is if I do en I ca Bnv t get skin done properly on it. Its a one piece grate and pain in but too lift out durring a smoke. I dont want to start off with coals in there because its too hot for smoking. Hopefully my new smoker will resolve the issue. You might try adding coals too your main firebox too see if you get the results your looking for.

I just added a chimney of charcoal to the grill area... Temp jumped up... Is 300f now. But I know it's going to kill my meat now.

What sort of unbelievable deal are we talking here?

Was a display model that was mis priced at $125. Regular price was $239. Because it was mis priced I got it at that price and I was able to get $50 off that because there was some damage and slight rust.... So I ended up paying $75 plus tax on it.
Still smoking this shoulder. Internal temp according to my digital remote therm reads 159f. Maybe 2 more hours.... Crossing fingers

I have this same smoker. I don't understand why you can not get up to temp? I can run mine up to 400d easily. Are you using any splits or just charcoal? I will put a 3/4 full chimney of charcoal usually lump or Stubbs then add a split every 30 min or so works perfectly. You will need a baffle at firebox end or you will have a very hot spot there. I use a 1/4 thick aluminum cookie sheet set on two bricks. Keep the smoke stack wide open for more airflow which is key.
