Yes, Yes, Yes Foam.. See... I did take your advice the last time you asked about the bottle opener. After searching for about a week after your inquirey, here is the one I decided to install on the smoker. Plain, simple and straight forward......

That's where I got mine, use it all the time, best 7 buck I ever spent.

Got 5 lbs Kielbasa and 16 lbs. of hot links on right now

I second that. Definitely best 7 bucks ever spent. I even painted a project car using that handle with rattle can paint. Most people couldn't tell it was rattle can not gravity gun. Changes the ergonomics completely and let's you get a nice even square pass even time you spray.
 
Got the firebox  door assembled today........Came out pretty nice. My face feels a little burnt.  For some reason while trying to weld the inside flashing behind the hinges my welding helmet wouldn't auto darken while my head was in the fire box so I had to weld without it with my eyes closed.... lol

yeah... I was thinking of one but I want to see how it runs first without it.. I'm hope with the large stack I wont need it.. Hoping to get some good air flow. i was thinking about adding some pipe extensions to the air inlets to direct the airflow to the center of the firebox. Going to make a smoke stack damper plate too
 
A 2-3" extension will keep the added air from feeding the fire... One member had to put an angled plate below the upper air inlet to keep from adding air to the fire... His air inlet was too low...
I does serve as an additional temp controller for the CC....
 
So what you guys are saying is add a pipe extension inside the fire box at the upper air vent so the extra air does not feed the fire, correct?

If the upper air vent is in line with the FB opening into the CC, do you see the need for it as well? Would it hurt to have one even if the upper vent is as I described?

Yes to 1st question.... No to 2nd question.... If the air can flow to the FB/CC opening, well above the fire, there is no need to a pipe or deflector.... those additions are for "already made" smokers that needs help....

The upper air vent was "invented" because some folks experienced extreme over temps of the firebox... The design of the smoker choked off the air flow through the cook chamber... too small of an opening below the RF plate and between the firebox and cook chamber... the heat from the fire couldn't get out of the FB and move through the CC.....
To help solve this problem, the first upper air inlet to the FB was installed.... Helped pretty good.... Now the overheated air in the FB could be "pushed" into the CC by outside cold air, as the CC was still warm enough to cause a draft... Then the calculations were investigated and some assumptions were made.... the original design was for a side firebox smoker with tuning plates.... The RF smoker, using the same calculations, was causing increased friction through the smoker... the opening we not big enough..... the calculator was adjusted to allow for good air flow through the RF smoker and everything is good now....
