Boston Butt's a smokin'

    I started my Boston Butt at about 5:30 this morning (about 25 minutes ago), and things are going just fine. We're supposed to have some rain today, but I have my smoker under my overhang on my back patio. I also built my smoke stack using a threaded pipe, so I can actually rotate my stack and have it outside the overhang so that the smoke blows out instead of staying under the overhang.

    Thanks Bassman. The Q-View pics will come as soon as I fix a bug in the webpage software. For some reason, 5:30 is showing up as 6:30 :-/

    Thanks. The smoker is homemade, and this is only my second smoke on it. Doing the butt right now and will add the ribs about 5-6 hours before dinner time tonight.

    What are you using to gather the data and create the log??

    I'm using the Stoker (complements of John Jackson of Rock's BBQ) with my own custom written software. I plan on trying to model the smoke process mathematically once I finish collecting the data.

    Ah yes. The Stoker is pretty cool. And your Web page is cool, too.

    Good luck with that. [​IMG] And I don't mean that in the sarcastic way it probably sounded. There are just SO many variables -- but then I am not a mathmatician. I'd be interested in seeing your results though.

  15. Wow! That is impressive. My problem would be that I would get so involved with that data that I would forget about my Q and mess it up. Happy smoking!

  18. Looks like it is about ready to pull. I started two 8lb butts around 1pm today. So i have several more hours. Great looking smoker by the way.

    Yeah I finished it off in the oven at 300F. I got impatient at 155F and decided to save my fuel. It's resting now, and I'll pull it in ~ 1 hour or so.
  20. It is cold here (about 30 deg) i am close to doing the same with mine.
