Picked up a half picnic roast, and rubbed it down with salt and seasonings, as well as a turkey breast that was on sale. I put both in their own freezer bag, and let the salt do it's magic for 3 days, turning each day to mix the juices. Smoked both the pork and turkey, then pulled that picnic roast and tossed into a pot of northern beans that had been simmering for hours. The only other ingredient I added was ground black pepper. I make ham and beans 4 or 5 times during the winter months, and this batch here was the best I've ever had, hands down.

Mmmm I love me some ham and beans, I like to use the leftover ham/hambone from thanksgiving and put it all together and let it cook in the crock pot over night, the next day make some jalapeño cornbread and some of the green Tabasco and it's one of my favorite things, so simple and so cheap yet for some reason I only have it after thanksgiving... Need to make a mental note to make some more throughout the year

The Pig does wonders for Beans , however being a Texas boy, I enjoy Pinto's . The Northerns remind me of Pork and Beans in the can... (yuk) .

And Cornbread is the perfect match for Beans... of any kind
