My Favorites:

- Killens BBQ in Pearland, TX

- Pecan Lodge in Dallas, TX

- Hutchins BBQ in Mckinney, TX

- Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood, TX

- Schoepf's in Belton, TX

- Rendezvous in Memphis, TN

- Kerlin- in Austin, TX

- Skylight Inn- Near Greenville, NC

Smoke ON!

Gorilla BBQ in Pacifica, CA.

Open daily until sold out. Usually around 6:30-7pm. They do not take phone orders.

Anyone who has lived east of the Rocky mountains has a better grasp of good BBQ than the folks out here in California.
I would have to disagree. We have great barbecue in California because of the great mixing of world cultures in California. Hey, it Harry Soo who won the first season of BBQ Pitmasters on TV.

But like music, it's all good, country wide. It's the cook, not the location. And if that location is a backyard, you can bet it's been made with care and affection by the cook.

Well in the Boston area....

There is

FireFly's in Marlbrough - They started off great but turned into a "chain" real quick. The quality went downhill fast.

Red Bones in Sommerville - long time establishment, pretty decent BBQ but not the best I've had. They do make a good pecan pie though.

Carnivores in Milford - relatively new but inconsistent in quality. I've had really good BBQ there and so-so BBQ there. My wife loves their potato salad.

Those are your choices... Best bet is to call me and I'll throw some ribs or a pork butt on. You can come eat at my place. My BBQ is a lot better than theirs.
Better watch out Willie, I just may call you on my next trip to Boston.

Fooling around on the forum, been away because high workload holidays, blah, blah, blah. Have to add my favorite. Don't get any layovers there any more but, Central Texas BBQ, just outside the Houston Hobby  airport has the best brisket I've ever eaten. To be honest, before eating there, I don't think I had even had any beef that was much good outside of steaks, and some occasional prime rib. I still try to make my brisket as good as theirs.

Slow Smoker

P.S. Speed kills: people and flavor.

Any other places?  I've tried Blue Ribbon and it's ok (correction: I used to love Blue Ribbon until I started smoking meat myself).  No good BBQ joints up here????

All of my favorites are just here in Utah since I don't get around the US much. Id like to do a BBQ crawl or something and go see all of these places, perhaps ill will the current 1.5 billion powerball! Then I can check out every BBQ place worth checking out.

Your right though Mummel (and others mentioned this too) Now that im getting pretty good with the smoker, its hard to go out and spend the money somewhere when I can get as good a product sometimes. So far I can certainly say that for a steak, but my BBQ isn't quite as good as some of my favorites.

if anyone is ever in SLC Utah, the places to check out are:

R&R BBQ

Patts BBQ

Smokin Bones BBQ

'I think we have a pretty underrated BBQ scene here, but that's just me.

There is something so much more rewarding by doing it yourself.  I dont what what it is.  Maybe its in my mind, but the whole process seems to add to the experience/final results.

Only real BBQ I have been at is Wilson's BBQ in Emporia, VA.

There's a place around here but they consider crockpots and barbecue sauce to be BBQ.

Here in Kansas City, my favorites are:

- Joe's Kansas City (formerly Oklahoma Joes). Go to the original gas station location for the experience. The line is often out the door and around the corner of the building.

- Q39 - trendy and pricy, but their burnt ends are the best I've had.

Honorable Mention:

-Smokestack/Jackstack has my favorite pit beans

- LC's - Lots of people like it but I haven't been there yet.

I have not been to R&R's Restaurant but I met them at a couple of competitions and got to try some of their stuff. It was excellent!

Kreuz Market in Lockhart, TX is about as good as it gets. Open fires , no sause and served on butcher paper.,country plain and simple., just like salt and pepper is all you need.

Also City Market in Luling TX is a great place too. In Texas it is pretty much all about brisket and not so much on the pulled pork like is is in other areas of the country.

I'll take City Market over Kreuz any day.
