With the Holidays coming up I'll be getting into gear to make some favorites. I like this tasty treat but I was never big on them when corn syrup is used. So I created my own variation of them. Here is my version with some old notes. I like to use a pan that has a wire rack in it to keep the chestnuts off the bottom where they would swim in the drippings. I also serving them on a warming tray and not a crock pot or similar. I hope you try and enjoy!

Bacon Wrapped Chestnuts

1/2 cup teriyaki sauce

1/2 cup hoisen sauce

1/2 cup ketchup

1/4 cup blackstrap molasses

1 cup water

3 - 6 each 8 oz cans water chestnuts

2 lbs bacon

Cut bacon into 3rds

cut large water chestnuts in 1/2 (or leave whole and need more chestnuts)

For 1 pound of bacon cut the ingredients in half, use 2 cans of water chestnuts, and 1/4 the bacon strips.

Put all ingredients except water chestnuts and bacon in a sauce pan and heat up to dissolve sugars, do not burn or boil marinade.

Cook in oven covered for first 45 minutes at 350. Remove foil for 25 minutes at 350. Turn up to 400 and cook until done (a few minutes or more).

notes from early on:

1 pound bacon

3 ea 8 oz can chestnuts

? cup water

1/4 cup ketchup

1/4 cup Hoisin sauce

1/4 cup maple syrup

1/4 cup honey

1 Tbsp Worcester sauce

1 Tbsp soy sauce

1 Tbsp lemon juice

heat to mix
