Was at Bass Pro Shops the other day and bought some applewood mini wood chunks. I was thinking that it would be great to use for chicken or bacon. After reading through several pages here, it seems that the best way to smoke bacon is the cold method. So my question is can I smoke bacon in a Char Griller 5050?

An easy way to do that would be with an AMAZEN smoke generator from Todd who is a sponsor of the site. See the bottom of the page for a link.

I and many others here will vouch for the quality of his products and his customer service.

Good luck and good smoking.

Agreed... I would add that you should make sure temp outside isn't too high! Unless you have special equipment, above 70 degrees ambient makes cold smoke tough!

Thanks for the replies and heads up on the Amazon smoke generator. I might have to spring for either the 5x8 or 12" tube. Being in Oklahoma, I'll probably have to wait a couple months for temps fall to 70' or so.

Yes I would put it in the fire box.

Also you can cold smoke bacon in warmer weather.

I just keep the smoker temp below 100.

If you need to you can put a couple of trays of frozen water in there under the bacon.

Good luck!
