Backyard Find. Keeper?

So, I just moved in with my bro (he's renting a house here in Orlando), and while putting some stuff in his shed I decided to take a look around, and low and behold I found this guy right behind the shed.  Someone discarded it I guess, landlord said chuck it, so obviously the first thing in my head right off the bat was SMOKER!

It's only a 30 gallon though....let's say it's not a rust bucket, is it still worth my trouble?  

I currently own a vertical electric smoker, and love it but we only have outlets out front, and I'd really like to have the smoker behind the house, which means I need non-electric setup.  I'm definitely going to get something soon, so that's why I'm wondering if this thing is worth my time, seeing as I plan to buy a new WSM most likely.

I also am not a fabricator, but have some great friends at a body shop I used to work at (I'm a parts guy), and know I'll have no problem finding a volunteer to help me cut/weld, etc etc.  So it won't be a problem there.  Whatcha think?

I'm over in the Tampa/St. Pete area. I'll be over your way in about a week or two doing a job in Orlando. If for some reason you decide you don't want/need it I'll be happy to pay you a finders fee.

BTW- I think there are a lot of things you could do with it and it's a great find.

Well I plan to talk to a few guys up at the shop to see if anyone is up for some after hours project work hahaa.  Once I see if someone is willing to trade labor for grub/beer then I'll decide for sure.  

So what do you think would be better, horizontal or vertical?  I see vertical being convenient because it's already pretty much set up to roll around, etc...?

I was thinking it was bigger than my New Braunfel's horizonal stick burner. I could make another horizonal or make a vertical attachment on the end. Redneck engineering thing :)

I just like it because it's red and it's got wheels!

I have just completed a build with this exact air compressor. I made a horizontal gas. Whisky foot you have PM .

What's a UDS?  I'm a total noob so I'm trying to get the terminology straight!  I just figured out what WSM means hahaa.  I would love to see pix of your build 10sne1, so I'll definitely be interested in hearing more about this.

I obviously need to start doing research on different styles of smoker builds....I don't know the diff between a reverse flow and regular, or any of that stuff.  So I'm definitely into hearing any advice you guys can give.

If you are this new at building you will want to get all the info you can find prior to your build. Build can cost more than you plan on spending and it may not even cook good? I sent you my e-mail so you can contact me and I can send you my photos. Tomm

Actually I didn't get a PM.  I assume the messages box up on top of the page is where PM's go?  I totally hear you on the build.  If I go through with it, it will be a methodical build for sure.  I've seen some smokers around here that look like they were built on a whim.....though they still made good food I guess! hahaa
