I started smoking with a cheap electric bullet smoker a while ago and had great results. I got an offset smoker once I was really comfortable with the bullet and while the results were slightly better, (more than slightly with a brisket) the amount of work was much higher.
recently went back to my bullet and am much happier. One change I've made is to use charcoal and wood chips for smoke instead of just wood chips. This gives me a much better smoke ring than just the wood chips ever did.
