Apple and Cherry smoked Boston Butt QVIEW!

Discussion in 'Pork' started by smokinstevo27, May 3, 2011.

  1.  Harris Teeter had butts on sale for 99 cents a pound last week. Needless to say, Stevo was on that! I bought an eight pound bone in butt for eight bucks. Also Home Depot had apple and cherry chunks on sale and I've never used that combo on a butt before so I had to try it. I usually use hickory on pork. Anyway, I started it around ten oclock saturday night and had fun staying up with it and drinking beer. The little ECB that could was also cooperative and my temps stayed consistent between 225-250. Surprisingly it never hit a major stall and finished in twelve hours. That almost never happens for me. [IMG]  Pulled it off the smoker at 200 degrees and rested it for about three hours. As usual it was fantastic. I will say that I still prefer hickory on butts, it just gives a more prominent smoke flavor. Here are some pics.

Looks awesome Steve wish I could find butts on sale for that price. Try straight cherry wood I find apple too light a flavor for pork personally

  3. Thanks Jerry that thought crossed my mind too. I love cherry wood and actually went 2 to 1 cherry. Don't get me wrong the smoke flavor was there but I am a smoke eater!

  6. Very nice. And a sweet price. I looked tonite at our Wally World and butts there were $2.29/lb! Ouch!

    Thanks for sharing.

  7. If you have a Sam's membership check there. The prices stay around $1.70 lb. They come in two packs. I keep my head on a swivel when I'm shopping supermarkets because every once in a while you find deals like this. Go huntin man and ye shall find cheap meat lol.

That looks great Steve. Try hickory mixed with Cherry. Works well.

  10. Gary I need paternity clothes. Amelia's sweet tooth has become stronger with the pregnancy. I have never been big on sweets but making her deserts and having candy around all the time has been bad for my waste line. My clothes aren't fitting quite right. I hope you and Kathy are well my friend.

    Steve

Thanks Brian. I have tried that combo on chicken and love it.

  17. Terry, I use my Weber Smoky Joe for my fire pan. I've got the barrel sitting up on pavers over the Smoky Joe. It helps tremendously.
