Anyone want a water stuffer? $41

    I have finished my project and it came out real well.  It is a simple knock-off of other suffers and I have removed some of the complexities of theirs, added a foot pedal for control.  Works great, uses 4" PVC.

    If you read the PDF link below you will have all of the information you need.

    I made this unit for personal use and had to buy a large block of the HPTE material which is horribly expensive in 2".  I ended up with enough to make 12 pistons so I will be offering 10 of them them and a machined cap to forum members at a minimal cost.  I'm not making any money or making anything for my time and the machine lathe work which is substantial.

    Offered on a first come basis.  I have used my unit and worked 21mm - 32mm - 36mm - 1 1/2" - 2 1/2" casings and it works perfectly.   I also made two ext ruder plugs (shown in the picture) with (3) 3/8" holes but they are not available and took about 4 hours to make!.

    I will furnish the piston, 2 O-rings and an end cap for the stuffing tube.  The remainder of the stuff can be bought at Lowe's or Home Depot.

    Attached is a PDF with the complete parts list of what you need.

    First come basis only, no changes or deviation.  It is what it is.

    now you tell me, i just purchased one last week.  looks like you've none a nice job.  how many #'s does it hold

    As many as you make the tube for ... 24" (like the clear tube) will hold 10#
     

    The shortie in the picture holds ~ 4 1/2#

    That is awesome! I love McGyver'n stuff. Somewhat type of water pressure do you need to run this?

  9. I think that water stuffers are cool in the say that they work, but it seems like a lot of stuff to mess around with, it also seems to take much longer and looks like much more clean-up (I hate clean-up!!!).

    I still don't see a clear advantage over a regular stuffer, other than maybe capacity.

    I'm not yet sold on these, what am I missing?

    Martin, in my experience of using both the H2O stuffers and the conventional piston stuffers, the water-stuffers really shine when I have a larger load (over 10 pounds) to do. For smaller batches, I simply use the little 5-pound grizzly.

    This Kirby cannon holds about 12 pounds; makes quick work of a big load.


    The lazy susan combined with the speedy cannon allows quick, steady stuffing...


    Clean-up is actually quite easy & in fact, I find it faster than when I have to clean my little 5-pound grizzly.

    A hose attachment blasts clean the tube & the plunger/piston unit is washed in the sink.

    With my newly-built outdoor 'stuffing table' and my new BIGGER Kirby cannon (output of 17 pounds versus 12 pounds), I'm ready to ramp up production.... [​IMG]

    I agree with Kevin and I added a foot pedal to mine so it is a simple one-man operation.  I did not make mine up as nice as Kevin did and just use simple hoses.  I also made my pusher tube into a combo cleaning wand.  Outside to the hose and presto the unit is shinny clean.  I think it is as or easier to clean than the Grizzly 5# unit, but I do use both, especially for new test sausages.

    When doing small sticks there is no comparison at all.  The Grizzly is a 2 man operation and difficult ... the water unit is simple.

    I sent Kevin a PM about a poacher unit ... never replied???
     
  12. The Kirby Canon works very well. I have a 6 inch diameter 30 lb unit. It's also controlled via a foot pedal with a solenoid valve. I mix in 25 lb batches and they fit completely and comfortably in the 30 lb stuffer. It will make pretty short work of 100 lbs of sausage. Fairly often I make sausage by myself so having both hands free while stuffing makes things run very smoothly and quickly. I don't have many pictures but here is one. The barrel is about 34 inches long.

    I also have an 11 lb Cabelas stuffer with the electric motor option. It works very well but when doing larger loads having to refill it so many times is very time consuming.

    I understand that standard house water pressure works. Where I live we have well and pressure can be a low. So what is the lowest water pressure that is needed to run one of these type stuffers?

    I've always used it alone and find it easy (the better half doesn't want anything to do with stuffing sausage), and believe me I'm not overly coordinated!!! LOL

  16. When I first set mine up and speaking with Kirby I asked him that question but for the life of me I can't remember the exact answer. I want to say 30 lbs PSI but don't quote me on that. I know with a well pump there is times when the PSI is at it's peak and times when it is at it's minimum. As I understand it, depending on how much of a variance this is, you would see some variance in sausage stuffing speed during those times.

    I know with mine there is no possible way you could stuff sausage running flat out, I'm sure if I tried I would have meat spraying 10 to 15 feet out the stuffer horn. [​IMG]

    I've been a member for probably 5 years or more and stop by fairly frequently but I just haven't posted a lot. Probably the majority have been in the smoker build section.

  19. Thinking about building a water stuffer and found your post on selling some of the vital parts, are they still available? If so I would like to get more info and maybe try and building one of these, thanks, john.
