Another rookie needs help

  1. So I just joined today and did my roll call post and now I'm in need of some help. I am brand spanking new to the world of smoking and am in the market for a beginner smoker. I'm mostly going to smoke wild meat, (elk, mule deer, trout.) I have a busy schedule usually especially with three young kids, so I need something that I can set and forget for now and is simple to use that won't break the bank. I live in the mountains of Colorado so cold temps will be an issue sometimes. Thanks for letting me be apart of this world and I can't wait to get started!!

A well insulated Electric would fit your needs. I suggest you look at the Smokin-it Smokers or a Masterbuilt Electric Smoker, 1st Generation 40" Model # 20070311 all Stainless...JJ

  3. Hey Rookie...

I have the Masterbuilt Electric Smoker, nice thing about the digital electric smokers are that you can do exactly that set it and walk away from them. They can monitor the temperature very well on their own. However it is electric so if you really want to get the flavor of charcoal, one of my best friends uses the Weber Smokey Mountain. It maintains it's temperature very well, and a good load of charcoal/wood, can last 6+ hours. Either way you go, I suggest a few different things first invest in the Maverick Digital Wireless Thermometer, it is a lifesaver and gives you the opportunity to walk away from the smoker and trust the temperature is holding well. As well, the AMAZE-N Smoke for pellets is a huge help in creating a good amount of smoke, and will work with whatever smoker you get. Hope this helps you get started good luck, and I am looking forward to some awesome Q-View pictures.
